Sam Altman to Return as CEO of OpenAI
San Francisco, CA – In a surprising announcement, Sam Altman, the prominent entrepreneur and former
president of Y Combinator, revealed that he will be returning as the CEO of OpenAI, the renowned artificial
intelligence research laboratory. Altman, who served as a co-chairman of OpenAI alongside Elon Musk and Greg Brockman,
will be taking over the CEO position from Brockman.
OpenAI, founded in December 2015, aims to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity.
With its commitment to long-term AI safety and the development of advanced AI models, OpenAI has made significant
contributions in the field.
Altman stepped down as president of Y Combinator in 2019 to focus on building and leading OpenAI. However, he later
decided to explore alternative paths. Brockman took over as CEO in 2021 and led the company during a critical phase of
growth and progress.
“I’m excited to return to OpenAI as its CEO. After taking a brief sabbatical, it became clear to me that my passion
lies within the realms of artificial intelligence and its potential to shape our future. I am grateful to Greg
Brockman for his incredible leadership and will work closely with Elon Musk and the OpenAI team to drive the
organization forward,” Altman said.
